A man of God
I believe that Watchman Nee possibly had the greatest revelation concerning the body of Christ, the church, of anyone in the Twentieth Century. His co-worker, Witness Lee, departed from the things that Watchman taught after he came to the United States. So I want to make it clear that the things I say about Watchman Nee do not apply to Witness Lee.
Nee suffered much for his belief that, according to the Bible, denominations are wrong, in that they divide the One body of Christ. Because of his stand for the oneness of the Body of Christ against the denominations, they caused him much suffering. Some denominations despised and criticized, some opposed, and all did their best to destroy his ministry. They also spread false rumors about him and misrepresented him to the extent that Watchman Nee once responded; "The Watchman Nee portrayed by them I would also condemn."
Today he is held up a a man of God by many of the ones who persecuted him. Just as Jesus said, "You build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, ...So you testify against yourselves, that you are the sons of those who murdered the prophets." (Mat.23:29-30)
I have for many years held to to the same belief that denominations, or any church organization, divides the Body of Christ. They all are created by man and refer to them as their founder or founders. Not one was ever created by the Lord. Each one seeks converts to join their man-made church. Let me say: You cannot JOIN the church, you must be born into it. Everyone who has been born again and baptised into Christ is part of the One Body of Christ, His church.
The Bible likens the relationship of Christ and His church to that of a husband and wife. (Eph.5:23-30) If a married woman was to join herself to another man, she commits adultery. Likewise if we, who are the one church of Christ, join ourselves to another man-made church, we are playing the harlot. Just as when Israel, who was God's people, would join themselves to man made religions. God said they were playing the harlot. Only the LORD God is the one true God and Jesus Christ is the only way to God, our Father. All other religions and so-called gods are man-made and false, just as all man-made churches. If they are not man-made, which ONE did God start?? Man creates churches to exercise control over people and to make offices for themselves. The Holy Spirit's job is to exercise control over the church, usually through those who the Lord gave to the church and vindicates as leaders to shepherd the flock. (Eph.4:11;Ac.20-28)
Because man is so carnal, he even tries to pass his ministry on to family. Billy Graham passed his ministry to his son, Franklin. Oral Roberts passed his ministry to his son, Richard, etc. You can inherit your father's house, his car, and his money, and you may even inherit his business, but not his ministry. For many, their ministry has become a business; in such a case, they are inheriting the business. Numerous times I hear of a pastor leaving his church to his son or his wife, which shows it was their church and not the Lord's. Moses did not give his ministry to his son or his wife; rather, God chose Joshua to take over and lead the people.
Let me bring up another point where so many are in disagreement with me: the world of politics and voting. I read recently what Watchman had to say about this; "Some believers are set on improving the world, but unfortunately, they end up being defiled by it instead. Why is this? Because we are called only to rescue people out of the world, not to change the world itself. The world already stands condemned before God."
Some Christians get so excited when a so-called Christian politician says they don't believe in gay marriage. Well that is not enough!! A true Christian will say I don't believe in homosexuality in any way, shape, or form. Then there are those who claim to be Christian judges and impose the law of the land, rather than the law of God, saying you can not discriminate against a homosexual in hiring, etc. "And although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them." (Rom.1:32) Thus, politicians and judges are given approval to gays and lesbians. The term, "they not only do the same," applies to heterosexual couples who are married and engage in homosexual sex acts. I have known of so-called Christians who say that it is alright. No! It is a perversion and abomination before God.
